The Ultimate School of Music offers guitar lessons for children, teenagers, and adults. We really like that they offer classes depending on the person’s age and skill level so there’s no need to be nervous at all.

In case you still have cold feet, they also offer private live-streaming sessions which we think is quite short since they only allot four 30-minute sessions for €197. Even so, this is a great way to feel your way through the lessons until you’re ready for in-person or even hybrid-type classes.

It’s important to take note that their children’s classes are only available for students 10 and up. In our opinion, we find this quite limiting, especially if you have youngsters who are eager to learn.

Their instructors can teach you how to play a variety of guitars as well as how to use their tools such as capos and even an amplifier.

We also liked their long operating hours are which is perfect for when you want to take lessons after school or work.

Another thing to take note of is they also conduct recitals where their students can show off their new skills, which we think is a fun event to look forward to.

Aside from regular membership, they also offer premium membership which has additional perks such as priority passes to their masterclasses and workshops as well as rescheduling. However, their rates aren’t available on their website so you’ll have to contact them to inquire.

Pros

  • Classes for all age groups and skill levels
  • Offers fully in-person, fully online, and hybrid class sessions
  • Has student recitals
  • Long operating hours
  • Offers premium membership

Cons

  • Due to their popularity, it may be difficult to secure a slot
  • No rates on their website

Classes are structured, yet fun

“Classes are structured, yet fun, and you feel like one day it’s all going to come together. The two-hour classes fly by.  Daniel’s a great teacher and Lisa and the team really make you feel like you’re part of a school, which I wasn’t expecting. I tried the one-to-one guitar classes initially and then moved to group classes.  Learned a lot through both. Maybe the one-to-one classes make you work harder in between as the focus is just on you but the interaction with others is nice during the group classes.” – Em, Google Reviews

In just a few weeks my guitar skills have progressed more than I could have imagined

“This is a great school to learn guitar. In just a few weeks my guitar skills have progressed more than I could have imagined. I never had proper lessons before, books only. Daniel has figured out some really simple and practical strategies to make guitar playing accessible for an average person (like me). In just a few weeks I have learned things I thought you would need to be musically gifted to do; such as, figuring out what key a song is in, playing along and even picking out a solo. I can put on spotify radio and play along, it’s magic! I highly recommend :)” – Sophie Conroy, Google Reviews

Dublin School of Music is an award-winning music school that focuses solely on classic guitar lessons for students of all skill levels. Their program is quite theory-based and focuses on having a solid musical foundation.

Their program spans a 10-lesson course costs €275, but if you aren’t fully committed yet you can avail of their 3-lesson “taster course” for €79.50

Since they only offer one-to-one sessions, you can enroll any time with an assured slot. Although this ensures that your instructor’s focus is solely on your performance and improvement, we think this set-up is quite rigid especially for those who prefer learning with others.

On top of that, they also offer lesson plans for exam preparations on request which is why we think that the Dublin School of Music is best for students who plan on taking the examination boards.

If you’ve only got about 40 minutes to spare, they also offer lunchtime sessions that are bite-sized lessons that span 10 weeks that are perfect for groups of 4 to 6. Since they can also drop by your office, this is a perfect way to get employees to have a fun bonding activity.

Although we were quite disappointed at the lack of diversity in terms of guitar types, we think the Dublin School of Music is great if you’re really serious about improving your skills.

Pros

  • Offers “taster lessons”
  • Specialty in classical guitar
  • Offers lessons for examination boards
  • Ensured slot
  • Offer bite-sized lessons for corporate clients

Cons

  • Only caters to one-on-one sessions
  • Closed on Sundays

Nothing but kind,  accommodating, and understanding

“Moving my daughter to Dublin School of Music was one of the best decisions I have ever made as a parent of a child who plays music and as a parent, plain and simple. My teenage daughter has been with this school for a fair number of years now and Craig has been nothing but kind,  accommodating and understanding and my daughter’s guitar teacher Darren is a natural. I would 100% recommend this school and this teacher  Darren.  I don’t know why I have not left this review sooner.” – Ciara Nibheolain, Google Reviews

Off the bat, you’re given a free introductory lesson where you’ll also receive a complimentary skills evaluation from your instructor. In our opinion, this is a great way to invite potential students to see if this class is for them.

We especially like the diversity in their lessons since they don’t only teach strumming and chords but also teach songwriting and ear training. We think this gives students additional creative opportunities to express themselves through the music they make.

Speaking of lessons, their instructors can teach beginner to advanced levels of acoustic, electric, and even bass guitar to children as young as 6 and adults, too.

They’re open every day and as late as 10PM so it’s a perfect after-school activity with friends or for learning a new hobby after work.

In case you’re worried about making friends, they also offer band workshops where you can learn and play with other musicians. We think this is an empowering way to give students a feel of what playing for a band is like.

We were disappointed that they didn’t have their rates on their website so you’ll have to call them to inquire.

Pros

  • Open everyday
  • Free introductory lesson
  • Wide variety of lessons
  • Offers band workshops
  • Children’s classes for ages 6+
  • Offers band workshops
  • Has online booking

For the past 15 years, Churchtown School of Music has been providing music lessons to students of all ages and skill levels with 16-lesson courses starting at €440 for beginners and €880 for advanced students.

Their variety really caught our eye since they offer lessons for classical, bass, acoustic, and even ukulele! In our opinion, this is really convenient since the wide variety of options allows you to cover all kinds of guitars under the same roof.

Another thing that we liked was their flexible payment options where you can pay in installment via credit card through Stripe or Paypal on their website.

They also have a Mini Music Workshop that caters to children as young as 3 months for early exposure for only €96. We love this fun idea to help nurture their inner musician through singing, dancing, playing, and even napping to their favorite tunes.

With only 4 guitar teachers, do keep in mind that their popularity sometimes causes them to become fully booked so it may be difficult to book a slot from time to time.

Pros

  • Offers Mini Music Workshop for kids as young as 3 months
  • Rates available on website
  • Flexible payment options
  • Wide variety of guitar lessons
  • Offers in-person and online sessions

Cons

  • Due to their popularity, it may be difficult to secure a slot
  • Closed on weekends
  • Few guitar instructors

Customer Reviews

I have begun to play with confidence and am really enjoying my music

“I took Classical Guitar classes at another school for three years and made little progress. Two years ago I registered with CSM. During this period – mainly due to the efforts of an inspirational teacher – I have begun to play with confidence and am really enjoying my music. The School is  well run and the fees  very reasonable.  I would recommend CSM to any to any aspiring music student/ parent.” – Gerald Manning, Google Reviews

Excellent in-person classes for toddlers, kids, and adults

“Quite simply the best music school in Dublin. Excellent in-person classes for toddlers, kids and adults and integrating online classes during lockdown has been done seamlessly.

Great atmosphere, friendly teachers and you can tell it’s a family run enterprise. Most of my family (and a few friends) have attended at one point or another and we’ve loved every second of it. Highly recommend!” – Joe O’Callaghan, Google Reviews

Blanch Music offers one-on-one and group lessons for acoustic, classical, bass, and electric guitar for students Year 6 and above of any skill level.

Their private lessons start at €23.50 per class while their 2 and 3-person group rate starts at €17.15 and €15.35 respectively. They also have 10, 12, and 14-week lesson rates available on their website if you’re interested in committing to long-term lessons.

We were surprised to see that their classes only last 30 minutes once a week which although may be good for those with short attention spans, we think it’s quite limiting and could disrupt the momentum.

Keep in mind that they’re requiring students to bring their own instruments which may be a setback for students who don’t have their own and are forced to purchase one to take lessons.

We did like how you can conveniently book and pay for your lessons on their website and even select your preferred teacher. That way you won’t need to pay them a visit to settle all the arrangements.

Pros

  • Online booking available

Cons

  • No guitar lessons on Fridays and Saturdays
  • Classes are only 30 minutes long
  • Bring your own instrument
